In 2015, is Chivalry (the acts as well as actions of a gentleman) dead?
I hope not, as a Young Brother that proudly considers himself a gentleman, I like to think that the act of being a man of character is not dead in a society that preaches disrespect to Women and Young Ladies. I like to think that the very simple but manly gestures of opening doors for women and calling women ma'am (no matter her age or perceive "social" or "society" value) are still alive. Maybe not as popular, well-perceived, or well-appreciated as it was back-in-the-day. However, being a gentleman still exists and being a man of character actually carries its own reward.
Anyway, I think gentlemanhood and manhood is extremely important in 2015. Particularally, in Our Communities; we as Young Brothers need to step up to the plate and treat Our Women and Young Ladies with the respect, bro/sis hood-ship, and gender awareness that society has label as obsolete. Society (more specifically: major record/music companies owned by non-African-Americans) show the Brown Man at his worst. We are in every video disrespecting and clowning on Our Brown Queens. And for what? A few gold chains or because it what looks cool. However, this type of behavior has two tragic results: First, Younger Brothers than You will look at these videos and at you; thinking that treating women badly is acceptable even cool. Second, what happens is the opposite gender will have a reaction to this behavior. The old saying goes every action, has a reaction. Therefore, when you ask why society is mess-up? This is why.
Many Brothers are blaming Chivalry being dead on the women. They are saying is Chivalry dead or did women kill it? The question is posing the ignorant assumption that women like to be treated badly? Anyone would be a fool to think that any human being would wanted to be treated badly. Now, there are a few people both men and women who are crazy. But, take it from a Brother that been around women his whole entire life. Ninety-nine point nine percent of women love Chivalry. However, many women have a defensive complex (in my opinion) when it comes to knights-in-shining armour that can only be blame on Men. Lack of fathers to show women how a man should treat them, so many wolves in sheep's clothing, and society (music, movies, anything mainstream) that shows Males at his worst
(specifically Brothers who have sold-out and who are nothing like the majority of real African-American Males).
Anyway, as you can see we as Young Brothers can't use this dumb and irresponsible theory as an excuse. Therefore, to be a man of character and a activist for chivalry a Brother has to change the narrative as well as norms of a generation for the greater successes of his community.
This is why we must change Our Own Environments and make them better. We must show that being a gentleman means being Brother of Class. Also, we must show that being a gentleman does not mean we want anything in return from the opposite gender.
Many days, it would be a heck of a lot easier to be like everyone else. To say forget it, and go be a follower who gets to walk a easy path (well-traveled and well-maintained). Instead I choose to a leader who has the responsibility (sometimes the burden) of navigating and constructing a different path (longer and lonelier) for the goal of actually making a difference.
Therefore, you ask is Chivalry dead? A proudly say no. Because if at least one Brother is trying to make a difference. Then, there is no reason we all can't be men of character.
However, I can say that there are plenty of Young Brothers out here being gentleman. It is just the media bias and the heroism of sin that makes it look like everyone is rotten.
In closing, to further my case I leave you with a list to research. Here are some groups and companies of Young Brothers that are truly gentleman.
