Mr. Alton Sterling & Mr. Philando Castile

I sat at my computer, and I logged on to Twitter. To my shocked, yet unsurprised emotions, another Black Man was killed in America. Once again, another hashtag was created. A father of children, and a provider killed again. His name was, no IS Mr. Alton Sterling. Mr. Sterling like I stated above was a father, and a man just trying to do what he could to be what he knew was being a man. In addition, as I read his case and looked at him. Something got me, and hit me hard. His stature and expressions reminded me of yet another case of a Black Man being killed that broke my heart: Mr. Eric Garner. Both men, simply doing the American way is of Entrepreneurship to make ends make. To take care of their families. However, both are gone to soon. Mr. Sterling is another case of the plight of being a Black Man in America. However, the situation and the state of my emotions got worse. Before I could even grief or disgust the case of Mr. Sterling murder, I heard that possible another black man was just killed. In fact, in the same manner and aspect of that of the first. That is when, for the hundredth time, I see the trending hashtag: Philando Castile. A responsible and hardworking man. A father of a child that witnessed him (Mr. Castile) being shoot. The idea of seeing that at any age is one that I still cannot phantom or visualize. Mr. Castile was a man that worked in a Minnesota school system. That feed children, not even his own on a daily basis. A man that show responsibility as a father, protector, and provider as a not a burden, but a blessing. However, one encounter without even so much as a proper identification, Philando Castile was shot.

Therefore, I say this to say that this has to STOP. How extreme do the cases have to get before we can say that enough is enough. How long do we have to sacrifice our souls, and be robbed of being a human being? Being treated humananely. I heard people talk about progress. But, what is progress? Eating inside a restaurant?  Drink from the water foundation as an another human being who you do not share the same skin color? No, progress is not being killed for simply being black. Progress is not being shot for wearing a hood, playing music in a car, or having a broken tail light. However, in 2016, all of these things are still illegal for black people. So, I don’t understand the meaning of living in a “society of equality.” Because as a young black man I have never seen or felt that. So, I ask what is the answer? Do we continue to let this happen or do we move forward with so kind change in mindset? I am deeply saddened. And, once again I have to say for what seems like the million time, Prays to the families. But, change needs to come. And, I will do everything that I can to make sure that this world is a better place. Because if I don’t, you or me could be the next hashtag. Just Saying….

Stay Safe and Stay Strong, Black Man

Sincerely,

The Brown Brother

RIP Mr. Dick Gregory

Mr. Dick Gregory was much more than a comedian. To simply say he was a comedian would almost water-down his greatness. The greatness in which he used a comedic style to educate those of various generations and philosophies. Mr. Dick Gregory was a man of intelligence, sophistication, and humor. Mr. Gregory was a truth seeker and one whom understood that a man must always investigate the conspiracy as well as facts written in the open to truly get a possible understanding of this cryptic world. Baba Gregory understood the importance of health and taking care of one's body. He understand the importance of a healthy spiritual life, and having a true connection with the one true universal GOD. And, the importance of being aware of our ancestors whom came before we all did. Furthermore, Mr. Gregory understood the importance of mental awareness, and the idea to continue to read and learn throughout the journey of life. Mr. Gregory activism and platform is beyond great, and very ...

FASFA

I try to explore different topics and ideas to discuss/share on the blog. While going through some papers and looking through some stuff, I remember that I forget to write about this topic. Therefore, today we are going to talk about FASFA. First, you may ask, "What is FASFA." FASFA is federal aid or money for going to college. Although they said "federal aid", it is basically tax that is set aside for students who want to go to college, but need money to help pay for college. FASFA is available to students who have need and are looking to attend college (certificate program, associate degree, or 4 year degree). You need to fill out FASFA every year. FASFA should be filled out by any and every student. It is something that will without a doubt helpful in paying for school. A simple summary is basically this: (1) Wait until you or parents file Income Tax (2) Go to this website- https://fafsa.ed.gov/ (3) Create a account (4) Fill out all of the informat...

Short Story of the Fatherless Black Male

I wrote this in the backseat of a car during a road trip. This post may have a couple of grammar errors and a couple of different ideas. But, this is how I truly felt. Let's get into it. I can't sugar-coat it or make it seem insignificant. Point blank, being a young black male without a father sucks. It worse than the stench of rotten eggs, and it feels worse than being hit by a truck at high speed. Being a fatherless male is like having half of your self taken away at birth. Being a father black male means going through life without a round-the-clock mentor, a disciplinary, a friend, a dad. I mean having a mom is a blessing within itself. Most fatherless males usually have a mom. However, if it took two to create, then it is best to take two to mold and build. And, let's be honest, it's some questions no dude feels comfortable or feels right asking their mom. That is just one of the reason why not having a father sucks. At the very least, it is a inconvenien...
