Last week, I show something that depressed me. I say this all the time, but when I see something so tiring I come to the same conclusion. My hope in society is 100% gone. Anyway, forget my rant. Here is the real video that made me feel this way.
I will let you watch the video (Courtesy of Complex) before I go into my personal thoughts.

Now, you may say that, how can you lose faith in society when this kid just showed incredible compassion?
I am not saying that what the kid did was small, but what I am saying is that this beyond crazy that he had to do this act in the beginning.
For those who did not watch the video, I will summarize exactly what happened.
At a middle school somewhere in America, a kid was being bullied because his tennis shoes were dirty and not "name-brand."
This is sad, but true in many schools in the western word. We have invested in materialism things so much that we now are teaching our children materialism. I have constantly denounced Jordans (also everything they stand for) and many other sneaker companies. Further, I call this form of bullying
" The What Are Those" Syndrome. "
Even before this term was conceived, we as youth have been bullying (or bullied) and making jokes about other people's attire. This form of open roasting is cruel and truly unsportsmanlike in conduct. When you bully someone over clothing they are wearing, you reach another level of low. I mean how low can you think picking on someone because they can not afford "trendy" clothes is ok. People are picking on the last fortunate.
Again, this is the "What are THOSES syndrome." The disease was created by marketing companies and other corporations to get Us to blindly spend money on things that don't matter. In the process, we think that we have a upper-hand on some one else because we have "things" and they don't. As a result, we lose sight of what is important and become numb to the feelings of others.
What this random kid did as a result of seeing a classmate being targeted because of his lack of gear was pure amazing. However, every action has a reaction. Therefore, it is sad he had to do this from the start.
I mean what is the matter with these sneakers. I am almost addressing this issue (rather online or in person) every week.

Well, shout-out to the kid who said enough is enough. Instead of joining the bullies, he did what he thought was best to defuse the situation. To think that maybe this kid could have committed suicide or at least be mentally damaged from this bullying is sad. I saw the reaction on the face of the student and I just paused it. He face said a thousand appreciations.
In closing, this world is cruel, and it is even more cruel in the age that we live in now. We put emphasis on things that we should not. Society is blind, foolish, and self-centered. Shameful, but true.
Sincerely,
The Brown Brother
