Today is the 3rd anniversary of the death of Trayvon Martin. They say time heals all wounds, however I am getting close to believing that some wounds can't be healed.  Three years has gone by since some of my very bearings, heart, and soul were crashed. And therefore, I am still finding it hard to go back to the old me. Maybe it a blessing, but I also consider a bad thing because one of my brother's had to die for me to realize how at times unjust society and the world can be. It made me see how the hateful and the rotting curse of racism/discrimination/prejudice really is. It made me grow up and see just how unkind at times we can be towards each other and they hate that comes because people may view another as different. It is outrageous how a event can change you so much that even you yourself do not know the full journey you took, only you realize when you have arrived there. For me I have arrived at this point in my life. Trayvon, Jordan Davis, Mi...
Today is a sad day. Although I have said this many times and we have discussed the Trayvon case numerous times. I must continue to vent and talk about something that means so much to us. This is off the top of the dome, so I am not tying to be politically correct at all. Today I have found out that George Zimmerman will not face any civil rights charges against him. I totally disagree and I am truly upset by the ruling. However, I have no power in the matter; but what I do have is a voice and an opinion. My mindset is that  it is utterly unfair and crashing that Zimmerman was not charged. How can someone not be charged I do not know. I kinda figured Zimmerman would not face any punishment, however I held out hope. This to me was just another slap in the face and blow to the body for me. However, although out of this case I have lost more than I have gained. I have without a doubt gained something that I will carry all of the days of my life: That is a life'...

A man who stands for nothing will fall for anything.                                                                                        -Malcolm X
Today fifty years ago, was one of the saddest days of American History; the death of Malcolm X. However, today is #MalcolmX50; which is basically the anniversary of the great man, leader, and example. Malcolm X was a exceptional individual that efforts, mindset, and leadership can never be duplicated. Born in 1925, Malcolm X's mission in life was to advance and protect civil rights. He was a figure that everyone could lean on for support and strength. Today, I want to take time and personally talk about the icon that has had a impact in my life. From study his speeches, book, and interviews; I have gotten the blessing to understand his goals and use his excellence as motivation for my life.  With a doubt there will never be a leader like him again. With much respect R.I.P to one of the greatest humans to walk the face of the earth: Mr. Malcolm X

Something that has been weighing heavily on my mind is the so called scandal and punishment of the Little League Team from Chicago. For those who don't know the Jackie Robison Little League team was an all African-American team that was the first ever all African-American squad to win the Little League World Series title. The Jackie Robison West team won the Little League Title fair and square, defeating all the American competition. Everything was fine, until a few weeks ago rumors were being spread that a "scandal" if you want to call it that was boiling. Fast-forward to last week, and the little kids of the Jackie Robison team were stripped of their title and the trophy was given to a team that they beat on the field. The reason for the stripping of the title was that after a long and extremely tough investigation done by the Little League association, it noticed that some of the kids did not meet the region boundaries. Basically several of the kids were not from the ...

Happy Birthday and R.I.P to my brother for eternity Trayvon Martin. May your life, soul, and time here on earth never be in vain. Today would have been Trayvon's 20th birthday, and it is truly sad that he could not be here to celebrate it. This is an injustice in the 21st century. However, as long as there are people like me and many others; we will make sure Trayvon's life is fully lived. #Blacklivesmatter #WeareTrayvonMartin
Today in Black History something happened that was great for the sports world. In 2007 on this day, Coach Tony Dungy became the first African-American head coach to win the Super Bowl.
A letter was brought to my attention, that to say the least was a shocker. It was a shocker for the simple fact that its was written long ago, however it still translates into today's time. In my opinion the letter has many parts that needs to be addressed today. The letter that I'm talking about is the Willie Lynch letter. Lynch (no pun intended) was a slave master that devised a plan to keep black people as he said "under control", the letter is ugly and hate filled but I challenge you to read it because it needs to be known. To read the letter, go to Amazon and buy the book. Also, there is a summary of the letter in an article done by the Final call's website.
Its Black History Month, and you may be looking for some ways to enjoy as well as take part in this month. Here are my top five ideas for what to do for Black History Month. 1. Go to your local or state's civil rights museum. Even though you probably have already been, doing Black History Month; a lot of museums may have different exhibits. 2. Do some community service. A great way to honor those of the past and do something positive for the future is making a impact in your community. 3.  Be a leader and a example for those younger than you (this is more than a month-long commitment). 4.  Check with your local college or university to see what programs they have planned for the month. 5.  Get you and some of your friends together to create something new and innovative for Black History Month.
