I am getting started early because there will be two books of the month. February's first book of the month is uncommon by Tony Dungy.
Today I want to do something different. Today I want to show something that you will need in adult and young adulthood. You need to learn how to tie a tie. In today's lesson I will show you a step-by-step diagraph.
RIP to a great baseball player and a great man. "Mr. Cub" Mr. Ernie Banks departed from us today, at the age of 83. He will be remember for being a sports icon and he was known for his great character. Mr. Banks will be well remembered. #RIP #Legend
For the second day in a row I'm here to talk about stereotypes in sports. For the second straight year, the Super Bowl will feature a African-American quarter. Although not everyone can be Russell Wilson, it still made me think about how few African-American quarterbacks we have in the league. Many may say its about quality and not quantity, however I ask the question why are there not more minorities at quarterback positions on any level. For this topic I have one major theory(seeing that I am a expert in every topic :) this theory can be broken down into two parts.  First, for years there has been a stigma upon certain races of males compared to that of our Caucasian brothers.  In the sports area for instance, black males may be looked upon as not having the intelligence or leadership to play the quarterback position. Although, this is a total lie; the is truth that some people share this backwards thinking (for further evide...
DOJ just concluded their investigation on Darren Wilson. It looks like their will be no charges coming down. #Idontknowwhattothink
St. Louis Ram's players walked into the field of a home football game with their hands up. They did this showing support for unarmed teen Mike Brown. In a silent protest, they did the "Hands up, don't shoot" gesture. Although, many did not like the gesture and the players received death threats; numerous people thanked and applauded the players. In other words, people were grateful that someone of their status care enough to make such a powerful headline.  Basically, this raised the question for me. What is the importance of the African-American athletes in and out of sports, and were does the two paths meet? Earlier in one of my articles I wrote a open-thank you letter to LeBron James, Derrick Rose, and others for doing something that many athletes did not have the nerve to do. That is speak out and not be quiet about your belief.  I believe that the role of an African-American athlete in politics and life can be a lot bigger. However, as time goes on; I b...
Secondly, I would like to talk about the Mexicools. Mexicools were a Hispanic tag-team that were surely stereotypical. The Mexicools were a tag-team that just by their entrance to the ring can be described as stereotypical & as racist as can be. They would drive to the rings on lawn mowers wearing overalls and playing up the "lazy worker ***back" stereotypical racist slur given to Mexican people. This my be Trump's favorite tag-team, however as for me I see these racist "characters" as dead wrong. I see this form of entertainment as wrong and it creates yet another dark cloud of racial divided that we do not need. Again as someone who did not understand this country's history as well as I do now; I see the mistake that was made. I also see the line that was crossed in making this a form of entertainment. As stated early, I do not blame anyone for providing for their family. However, those that create such entertainment should know the difference between...
Today I want to talk about stereotypes in sports. Also, the part that African-Americans athletes play in the life as well as politics in and outside of sports. Monday night I watch WWE for the first time in a long time. I saw old faces and a saw new faces. However,  as I watched WWE; I watched a match between a all African-American tag team and I thought about two old tag teams. I find it ironic, because it was WWE reunion night. But the two tag-teams that I thought about were Cryme Tyme and the Mexicools. First, Cryme Tyme was an African-American tag team. They had sagging jeans,  grills in their mouth, and did a lot of other stereotypical things. Also, Cryme Tyme would in many cases steal whatever would not be nailed down (cars or championship belts). The point I make is as a young kid, I liked Cryme Tyme; however, now I ask was this entertainment and if it was were we the joke. I understand that some of the style and music for example reflected some of o...
Today, our President held the State Of The Union address. In this address the president cover a wide variety of topics. Overall the address was detailed and the points made were current. The State Of The Union address was great and I truly thank the president for his six years of leadership; I look forward to what the two next years hold.
Just like every month; I pick a book of the month. Every book of the month that I ask you to read is one that I have already completed. So, although I know the ending I will not spoil the surprise. This month's book is one of the most popular books of all-time. It is Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man. Personally, it take me three to four days to read. It was interesting and is one that you want to read cover-to-cover. I hope you enjoy this Black Literature classic.
In Black History today, President Obama was inaugurated in as the first African-American president of the United States. The honorable President Barack Obama is a prime example of what we can accomplish as African-American males with hard work and dedication.
To sum up MLK Day, it was a great day. Beautiful weather and many volunteers willing as well as ready to serve. Personally, I wish everyday could be like this. A day of remembrance, reflection, and impact. Today, a lot of us got involved and attained some of the numerous events that were held. Most of us knew the importance of what it meant to reiterate and collaborate with some of the message Dr. King blessed us with.  Young and old; brown or other, we came together to extend the reach and experience the life lessons of unity as well as hope. In closing, MLK Day 2015 was amazing and I hope that the lessons learned today will last as long as time exists.
During MLK Day, lets remember the lessons and life's mission of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Furthermore, today is not just a day. MLK Day can be lived and celebrate everyday. We have to constantly relive the life and principles of a exceptional and divine Man. Also, we must not look at today as a once a year birthday or holiday. However, we must look at MLK Day as a lifestyle, a example of how to be a man, and a example of what truly being a blessing as well as an instrument from GOD means. Don't get me wrong, please volunteer and make a impact; however, do not stop today. Rather small or big, make a impact everyday. Do right by others and be a man of character daily. This is how we celebrate and honor the "GREAT MAN" Dr. Marin Luther King Jr. #MLK #MLKDay
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.               I am coming to feel that the people of ill will have used time much more effectively than the people of goodwill. We will have to repent in this generation not merely for the vitriolic words and actions of the bad people, but for the appalling silence of the good people. We must come to see that human progress never rolls in on wheels of inevitability. It comes through the tireless efforts and persistent work of men willing to be co-workers with God, and without this hard work time itself becomes an ally of the forces of social stagnation. We must use time creatively, and forever realize that the time is always ripe to do right. Now is the time to make real the promise of democracy, and transform our pending national elegy into a creative psalm of brotherhood. Now is the time to lift our national policy from the quicksand of racial injustice to the solid rock of human dignity.
Congrats to the Seattle Seahawks for winning the NFC Championship. Seattle can make history by winning back-to-back Super bowls. Furthermore, QB Russell Wilson can make history to be the only African-American QB to win back-to-back rings.  He has already made history last year, by being only the second African-American QB (Mr. Doug Williams <first>)to win it all. Congrats to Seahawks #Winitall  #Greatestgamealltime
Happy Birthday to the greatest fighter of all-time and one of the greatest MEN of all-time. Muhammad Ali was born today in Louisville, Kentucky in 1942. During his career, Mr. Ali fight in and out of the ring for equality as well as success. Mr. Muhammad Ali is a great man and is a great example of courage. Through his life Mr. Ali has changed the world. He is not just a boxing or sports icon. He is a international icon and one of heroes in our African-American culture as well as our communities. Mr. Muhammad Ali perfectly blended politics, sports, and leadership. He is a truly amazing man and can never be duplicated. Happy Birthday, Mr. Muhammad Ali
During MLK Day, you may be wondering what to do to celebrate and do your part in making a change. Here are my top five things to do to make a impact on the King's holiday. 1.  Volunteer your time for service in your community (clean up local parks or donate food to local food bank). 2. Donate blood to your local American Red Cross 3. Volunteer to be a Big Brother in the Big-Brother, Big-Sister program 4. Check with your school to see if there is still time to participate in their MLK Day of Service. 5. Being a young leader and a good example to others young brothers.
As MLK Day approaches, I can not stress the importance of celebrating this holiday "the right way." Dr. King and many others fight non-stop, so that we can have the freedoms and opportunities we have today. Remember to volunteer and please make a impact; not just Fri-Monday, but make a lifelong commitment to changing our communities for the better.
Thoughts and prayers go to Mr. Muhammad Ali Hope he gets better soon #Getwellsoon
As we prepare for the Martin Luther King Holiday, remember to keep his legacy. On his birthday we as young brothers need to give back to our communities, spread peace, and use our time/youth/effort to make a positive impact. Let celebrate A GREAT MAN, THE RIGHT WAY.
Happy New Years, 2015 has arrived and it will be a year of great promise and I hope we will accomplish many goals. A lot has happen since my last post. From the tragedy involving two NYPD officers to the start and great finish of Kwanzaa. I can truly say 2014 ended on a rocky stage. However, a New Year is here and another opportunity has come for us to be better than we were before. I can also truly say that the Brown Brother will be better than ever. After much consideration, I have decided to keep moving forward to make this Blog the best ever. With the support of many, I will continue to keep spreading informative news, give inspiration, and carry the torch that many behind me had to carry in their life. With many Prayers, practice, and patience; I hope that we as Young Brothers continue to make strides to be successful at everything we do. Sincerely, The Brown Brother
